- MYTHOLOGY
- The island is said to have got its name from Thassos, the son or grandson of Agenor, king of Phoenicia. Thassos, while searching his sister Europe, who was abducted by Zeus, stopped searching the island and settled there as the first king of thassos. Other ancient legends claim that the island has a different name, such as “Ieria” or “Aithria”, or even “Coast of Demeter” with lush forests where according to legend the Goddess hunted .
